We’re always delighted to see a new refill shop opening. Introducing The Wash House Store in Perth!

We should say, firstly, that The Wash House Store has been an established business for some time, on the outskirts of Perth, but this month opened in a city centre store as part of Quince & Cook in Princes Street, Perth. As well as a huge number of gorgeous product refills for beauty and home, there are homewares, plants, gifts and range cookers. Everything is chosen with longevity, quality and eco-friendliness in mind.

Annelie at Little Green Ways caught up with owner Sophie to find out more.

“The Wash House Store was born from my dream to reduce single-use plastic and the use of harsh chemicals in the home. Having struggled to find sustainable, plastic-free natural products in my home town of Perth, I set about sourcing products from like-minded companies to create the Wash House Store. I am fuelled by my passion for natural products that make for a happy planet and a happy you.

“We offer plastic-free refills from our Perth store plus plastic-free swaps for your household essentials such as sponges, straws, wax wraps and much more.”

The new refill shop was designed to be self-service but, due to COVID, the staff will fill your bottles for the time being. Customers can use their own bottles (as long as they are clean and rinsed out) and The Wash House Store also sells glass and aluminium bottles to purchase and keep for future use.

As well as all of the lovely refills you can find natural vegan soaps, deodorants, dental care and a luxury skincare collection. The “Wash House” part of the store sits nestled between the cookware and interiors departments. These departments are full of plastic-free gifts, cards, homewares and cooking accessories. Everything is build to last and the majority of designs are made by UK-based designers. “We love supporting independent makers and creators and like to bring something different to the shop,” Sophie adds.

Quince & Cook with Wash House is a dream realised for Sophie. She and her husband Neil met working in retail and have now come full circle, doing what they love: “engaging with our lovely customers, creating a hub and joining the amazing independent retail scene in Perth.”

Sophie has plans to offer even more than a wonderful eco-shopping experience. “The long-term plan, when it’s safe to do so, is to use our space for soap-making classes, wreath-making, cooking nights and so much more!”

The idea of the “Wash House” name comes from the old wash house or “steamie”, a community space from a bygone era where the weekly clothes wash would take place as well as a social hub where stories and gossip were shared. We’re sure this lovely store with the great ethos will bring the community together, too.
