I went to the garage and found my seedling trays had degraded or been mashed in a recent house move.
Not to be deterred from planting, and reluctant to buy anything new I came up with a new way of planting my seedlings this year!
Plastic container Toilet roll tubes Rolls cut in half and placed in the tray Add soil, seeds & cover with reused cling fillm
My boys stuffed pasta comes in a plastic tray and it’s his favourite meal… I like to buy it as a quick treat for busy nights but the plastic has been annoying me – it’s so satisfying to find another use for it!
Morrisons pizzas was the best I could find for a convinient shop bought low plastic option as it comes on a cardboard tray. The cling film over the top is the perfect topping to keep those seedlings toasty!
Its actually a perfect way to start out your little plants.
The plants can be put in the ground cardboard and all which means you don’t damage the delicate root structure as you plant out. Cardboard is an essential ingredient for many composting systems so it’s all good for the soil too.
Happy zero waste planting!
