So I’m pretty damn environmentally minded. It’s on my mind 24/7. But where do I actually put my energy for the greatest good?! I try and make all the right lifestlye choices for me and my family but implementing all of the changes isn’t very easy to do instantly – its more of a transition than a quick swap over. Then there is our difficult infrastrucutre to navigate too!
Step in Offset.earth!
I came across an advert for Offset.earth today and it was like music to my ears! Here is a cracking website which allows you a monthly subscription to offset your co2 output – while at the same time offering goals /encouragment for reducing your own co2.
I just signed my family and pets up to the tune of £15.50 per month. This money will go towards planting trees and other projects which will help reduce co2 levels in our environment.
A nice profile page is created for you which you can use to track your impact and keep track of your own environmental goals.
But where does your money go?
Money collected is used in reforestation projects and other gold standard projects to reduce co2 levels. It doesn’t really matter where we take the co2 from, or where we reduce the amount produced… we all share the same atmosphere! So investing in projects in places which are most able to see successful results is absolutely the way forward!
We start by hiring the local villagers to plant trees.
This gives them a decent income so they can provide for their families again. As the reforestation effort goes on, healthy forests begin to emerge and all the negative effects of deforestation begin to disappear.
But who are offset.earth?
Offset.earth was built by three pucky entrepreneurs from Bristol. They are supported by companies who are also helping with offset.earth and therefore don’t draw any wages from our subscriptions. In fact almost 90% of our subscription goes directly to the projects with a small amount left over for transactional costs and a little advertising to expand the service.
